I've been doing some cleaning and dug my old Genesis out of the closet:
It's a Model 1 from '91, with a modification for S-Video output:
I had that done way back in '05 when the cartridge slot stopped working. Shipped it up to Canada, to a retro console repair guy that the Sonic Classic forums recommended. They also installed this nifty mod, which makes the output video like a million times crisper. You'd swear you were playing fullscreen on an emulator. And the audio ports were wired into the headphone jack on the front and controlled with the volume slider.
Side note: Did ANYONE EVER use that headphone jack on the front? Between that and the Dreamcast controller's wire placement, Sega sure has a knack for awkward ergonomics.
Sadly, the cartridge slot eventually started to break down AGAIN years later, so this Genesis is retired save special occasions to prevent it breaking completely.
Sonic stuff! I maxed out at least 4 save slots on Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
Not pictured: The oddball Sonic 1 cart I had with the European box art for some reason.
What survives of my library. Long story short, I did not have continuous possession of this Genesis and the various carts from 1991 until now. My collection is missing a lot of titles I used to own:
Kid Chameleon, Greendog, World of Illusion, Quackshot, Space Invaders 91, and
Tazmania to name a few. The Ms. Pac Man and Eternal Champions are also not my originals.
Lastly, we have a promotional brochure that unfolds into a poster full of ads for the Genesis Model 2, Game Gear, and Sega CD. But what's on the other side, you ask?
Jurassic Park! It came with the game, and I lost the box and manual XD
