I'm kickstarting the first anime-specific thread on the site with a Gundam thread, because Gundam fucking rules. It's like... peak "I'm fourteen and this is deep" and then you watch it as an adult and you're like "I'm an adult... and it's still deep!"
This is a super long-running franchise dating back to 1979, and it's still going strong with a new series called Mobile Suit Gundam: GQuuuuuux to premier on television in April with a theatrical version of the first two or three episodes out right now. Just a year ago we got the theatrical film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom which had been roughly TWENTY YEARS in the making. There's a LOT of shows, many of them not sharing continuity at all, and a lot of them are worth checking out if you're not into the franchise already. Make no mistake, it is practically a life mission to make sure that I get as many people into Gundam as possible.

(This film is great because the first half is melodramatic and really rocky but the back half is the heroes styling all over Fire Emblem Engage rejects)
Currently I'm in the midst of my first full watchthrough of Gundam ZZ after having rewatched the original Gundam and its sequel Zeta Gundam. Hopefully I'm going to have it done before March 16th so I can go see the next installment in that timeline, the very first fully original theatrical Gundam film, Char's Counterattack, in theaters. It's, uh... a very unconventional Gundam. It directly follows the very bleak ending of Zeta Gundam but swerves hard into slapstick comedy, before gradually morphing into a more traditional Gundam.

This wacky bunch of kids are all flavors and degrees of dickhead. Except Leina, the girl in the middle, she's nice. Not pictured is Puru, who is also a bit of a dickhead. Also not pictured is Glemy Toto, who is not a dichead by virtue of being a GIGANTIC PIECE OF SHIT. Oh yeah, and also the extremely chonky ZZ Gundam.
But yeah, Gundam thread is go! I will get EVERY SINGLE PERSON into Gundam if possible. Stay tuned for me talking about Char's Counterattack when I get to that, and then after that I'm going to be rewatching Gundam Unicorn, which is most easily described as the Avengers: Endgame of the original Gundam timeline. It's also probably one of the best sci-fi anythings I've ever seen.

No seriously it's so fucking good.
